Ads by WD

What is Wordinator?

The features offered by Wordinator (text search and translation) often trick users into believing that is valid software, however, this application is ad-supported and the developers distribute it using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Therefore, Wordinator is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).

The bundling method allows stealth installation of third party applications/browser add-ons (in this case Wordinator) without users' consent. After installation on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox), Wordinator generates various advertisements (marked as 'Ads by WD').

Most ads generated by this type of application are delivered using a virtual layer that allows display of third party content on any website visited. These advertisements may also appear in pop-ups, new browser tabs or windows. Advertisement types displayed by Wordinator include coupon, in-text, search, and banner ads.

Most redirect to online shopping and other similar sites, however, others can redirect to untrusted websites containing dubious content. Therefore, clicking ads that may seem harmless might lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.

Furthermore, some of the generated advertisements are opened in a new browser tab or window.

Some users may consider these advertisements harmless, since they are likely to redirect to commercial websites such as online stores. Despite this, banners, pop-ups, interstitial, transitional, coupon, price comparison, search and other ads might redirect to websites containing infectious content, thereby causing further computer infections.
