What is AdBlockerPremium?
The AdBlockerPremium application claims to improve Internet browsing security and to block ads displayed by various websites. Although this functionality may seem legitimate, AdBlockerPremium is categorized as a potentially unwanted application. This application is usually bundled with other software and generates third party ads, and is categorized as adware.
AdBlockerPremium infiltrates Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and then displays intrusive online advertisements.
Most of the delivered ads redirect users to commercial websites, thereby increasing the traffic of these sites. Some redirects may lead to bogus websites containing infectious content - be aware that clicking ads can result in high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, AdBlockerPremium tracks Internet browsing activity and gathers various information including operating system, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, search queries, websites visited and activity on those sites, and cookies. These are just some examples of information types collected by this rogue application.
It is highly probable that this collected information might contain personally identifiable details (logins, passwords, etc.), which are later shared with third parties. Therefore, having AdBlockerPremium installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
There are many adware-type apps similar or identical to AdBlockerPremium including, for instance, Application Nation, Polished Patterns, and Information Vent.
These apps are developed to offer various useful features, however, none (including AdBlockerPremium) provide any value to the user - they are used to generate revenue by displaying adverts and sharing collected information with third parties. For this reason, AdBlockerPremium should be removed from your system immediately.
Many freeware download websites (such as downloads.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, etc.) monetize their free services and traffic using small programs called 'download clients'. Although these programs should ease the download process, their purpose is to offer installation (or, in some instances, hide it under the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options) of additional programs.
Promoted applications are presented as legitimate, however, reckless download and installation of freeware often leads to adware or malware infections (in this case, AdBlockerPremium). For these reasons, decline any offers to install third party applications. The following instructions will guide you through removal of AdBlockerPremium from your system.
How did AdBlockerPremium install on my computer?
This adware is often bundled with freeware, and since many users do not pay enough attention when downloading/installing free software (by skipping steps), they inadvertently install AdBlockerPremium. Furthermore, certain installers conceal installation of third party apps, and therefore, developers are able to install them without users' permission.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two main steps to prevent installation of PUPs such as AdBlockerPremium. When downloading free software, uncheck any unrecognised applications included. Also, use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options when installing free software - this will reveal any bundled programs listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
