Filter Results Ads

What is Filter Results?
Filter Results is an adware application that claims to enable various useful functionality. This is an attempt to trick users into believing that it is valid software that will improve the Internet browsing experience.
The developers distribute Filter Results using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling', and therefore, this app is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Filter Results adware infiltrates most popular Internet browsers (including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) and displays many Intrusive online advertisement types.
The ads use a virtual layer, which allows display of graphical content over any website visited. In some cases, advertisements generated by adware-type applications open new tabs/windows and cause unwanted browser redirects.
Although generated ads (banner, pop-up, coupon, comparison shopping, interstitial, transitional, search, etc.) commonly redirect to commercial websites (for example, online shopping or services), some can redirect false websites containing infectious content - this behavior may lead to installation of other harmful applications.
Filter Results is developed to collect various software and hardware information. The Privacy Policies of adware-type applications (including Filter Results) state that collected information contains no personally identifiable details, however, research shows that it may include geographic location, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, Internet browsing activity (sites visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, browsing history, cache, cookies, web beacons, etc.), and even keyboard/mouse inputs to track passwords.
This gathered data may indeed be personally identifiable and users are unlikely to remain anonymous with this software installed.
Be aware that the developers share this information with third parties - possibly cyber criminals. Thus, the presence of Filter Results on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity. This application should be uninstalled from your system immediately.
Filter Results is developed by SuperWeb LLC. This company aims to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites, and thus, continually releases identical browser extensions (including Filter Results) under different names. SuperWeb LLC has released several hundred PUPs such as thirteen degrees, application nation, information vent, square corner, and polished patterns.
Although these PUPs claim to enable many useful features, none deliver any real value. Adware-type applications are developed to generate revenue by displaying intrusive online advertisements and sharing collected data with third parties - they are useless to regular users.
Commonly, adware-type apps are distributed on freeware download websites such as softonic.com, downloads.com, soft32.com, and many others. These sites obligate users to use small programs called 'download clients' (also called 'installers', 'download managers', 'download tools', etc.) to 'ease' the download process, however, the true purpose of these programs is to generate offers of third party software installation.
Promoted software is described as 'legitimate and virus-free', however, rushing installation and carelessly accepting these offers risks system infection with adware or malware. If you have installed Filter Results, and you observe intrusive online advertisements (often marked as 'brought by Filter Results' or 'Filter Results ads'), follow this guide to uninstall the adware.
How did Filter Results install on my computer?
Filter Results is mostly distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party apps with the chosen software.
Although this bogus extension is available for download on the official website, most users inadvertently install it together with free software downloaded from freeware download websites. Adware-type apps such as Filter Results are often hidden under the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options, and therefore, skipping these steps exposes the system to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Express caution when downloading free software - observe each step of the download procedure and ensure that only the chosen application is downloaded. Furthermore, software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any bundled programs listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
