Ads by KrShop

What is KrShop?
KrShop advertisements are displayed by the Shop-Wit application, which supposedly helps to save time and money while shopping online - "Shop-Wit will make your online shopping experience better. It's free, safe & friendly and will help you save money shopping online in your favorite stores."
Some users may be tricked by these fake promises into believing that this is legitimate and useful functionality, however, Shop-Wit is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. The rogue behavior exhibited by this application includes stealth installation, display of intrusive online advertisements, and monitoring of Internet browsing activity.
Shop-Wit displays various advertisements often marked as 'Ads by KrShop' or simply 'KrShop'. The types of ads delivered include (but are not limited to) banner, coupon, and pop-up ads. These are displayed using a virtual layer that provides developers with the ability to place any graphical content on visited websites.
The displayed content does not originate from user's visited website and conceals underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience. Although these ads are likely to redirect to e-commerce websites such as online stores, some might lead to bogus websites, thus, causing further computer infections.
In addition, Shop-Wit continually monitors Internet browsing activity and collects system information, later sharing it with third parties.
These third parties can misuse personally identifiable details to generate revenue, and thus, having Shop-Wit installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We highly recommend that you uninstall Shop-Wit from your system immediately.
Adware-type applications such as Shop-Wit have similar characteristics. There are hundreds of deceptive apps also claiming to save time and money including, for example, PriceLess, Savings Ship, Coupoon, and DealShopSave. None fulfil their promises to enhance the Internet browsing experience.
Shop-Wit, and other similar apps, are developed to generate revenue for the developers by displaying advertisements and collecting personally identifiable information - they provide no significant value for user.
How did Shop-Wit install on my computer?
As with other adware, Shop-Wit is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. This method allows installation of third party applications with regular software. Bundling is very effective, since many users lack caution during download and installation of applications.
Most are unaware that rogue applications are concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, and by skipping this section, they inadvertently install potentially unwanted programs such as Shop-Wit.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Rather than rushing download and installation, closely observe these two procedures. Pay close attention when downloading and installing software, follow each step, and decline all offers to download or install additional apps. Both of these processes should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' option, this will reveal any concealed third party applications and enable you to opt-out.
