Coupoon Ads

What is Coupoon?
Coupoon is a rogue browser plug-in developed by a company of the same name (Coupoon Inc.) This plug-in claims to be a great tool to save time and money while shopping online, and although some may find the functionality legitimate and useful, Coupoon is classed as adware.
The reason for this negative association is a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party applications together with the chosen software) employed by the developers to install Coupoon on Internet browsers without users' permission.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, intrusive online advertisements are displayed. Ads generated by this rogue application (coupons, banners, comparison shopping, in-text transitional, in-text link, etc.) are likely to redirect to bogus websites, thereby exposing your computer to risk of infection.
As with other regular adware, Coupoon tracks and records various Internet browsing-related information such as operating system, browser type, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, and other types of data that may be personally identifiable.
Therefore, having Coupoon adware installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. There are many rogue applications similar to Coupoon including, for example, Br0wsrAp, Price Expert, Pricezilla, and Price Rocket. These offer identical features, however, none (including Coupoon) provide any real value for the user.
In fact, they diminish browser performance, display intrusive online ads, and share collected data with third parties to generate revenue. You are strongly advised to eliminate this application from your system.
Research shows that most adware similar to Coupoon is distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, etc.
Download clients supposedly ease the free software download process, however, they are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of third party applications. These promoted applications are described as legitimate and virus-free, however, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
You can avoid this situation by closely analysing each step of the free software download procedure to ensure that no additional programs are installed.
Furthermore, downloaded software should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any third party applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed Coupoon adware, follow the instructions below to eliminate this PUP.
