What is Back to Back?
Back to Back is a deceptive browser extension claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience by providing features such as comparison shopping and coupons. The functionality offered may seem legitimate and useful, however, Back to Back is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
A deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' is used in Back to Back adware distribution and is one of the main reasons for these negative associations. Bundling is stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software, and therefore, most users install this adware inadvertently.
After infiltration on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, this PUP generates intrusive online advertisements (banner, pop-up, interstitial, transitional, full-page, and search) that are likely to redirect to bogus websites, thereby exposing your computer to risk of infection.
Back to Back adware continually monitors Internet browsing activity and collects various software and hardware information including IP addresses, websites visited, search queries entered into search engines, pages viewed, and unique identifier numbers.
Some of this collected data might be personally identifiable, and therefore, information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Back to Back is one of hundreds of applications developed by SuperWeb LLC.
This company releases many identical rogue applications (including Back to Back) under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites. Examples include WunderWeb, Intense Result, Tile Count, Primary Color, and Insider Deals.
Although the developers claim that these apps enable useful features, neither Back to Back, nor any of these other apps provide any significant value. Their purpose is to generate revenue by sharing collected data with third parties and displaying intrusive online ads, and therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall Back to Back from your Internet browsers immediately.
Research shows that Back to Back, and most other adware-type extensions, are mostly distributed via small 'download programs' (also called 'installers', 'download managers', 'download clients', 'download tools', etc.) on freeware download websites such as download.com and soft32.com.
These programs are used to monetize these websites' traffic and free services by offering installation of additional applications together with the chosen software. In some instances, installation of third party software is simply hidden within the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' download/installation options.
Although the developers state that their software is '100% genuine and virus-free', careless download and installation of freeware often causes adware or malware infections. To avoid this situation, closely analyse each step of the free software download procedure and ensure that no other applications are included.
In addition, installation of downloaded software should be performed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed Back to Back, read the removal guide provided to uninstall this adware from your system.
