What is HQ Video Pro?
The developers of HQ Video Pro present this browser add-on as a great tool to improve the quality of online videos. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that HQ Video Pro is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) or adware.
These negative associations are made due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling', which is used to distribute HQ Video Pro adware. Bundling is a way to distribute third party applications together with regular software, and therefore, HQ Video Pro is designed to install without users' consent.
This PUP infiltrates Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and then generates intrusive online advertisements. Transitional, banner, price comparison, coupon, pop-up/under, and other ads generated by HQ Video Pro might redirect you to bogus websites containing infectious content, thereby exposing your computer to infection.
Furthermore, HQ Video Pro continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity and records various software and hardware information.
It is highly probable that data collected by this adware (IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc.) might contain personally identifiable details, and therefore, having HQ Video Pro installed on your system can result in serious privacy issues or identity theft.
HQ Video Pro is similar to other regular adware such as OpenXBrowser, Coupoon, Screen Boost, Shop Time, and Product Deals, which are just some examples of applications offering similar or identical features.
None of these applications (including HQ Video Pro) provide any of the features promised - the purpose of these adware-type add-ons is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements and by sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to uninstall HQ Video Pro from your system immediately.
Research shows that most adware, including HQ Video Pro, is distributed using small programs called 'download clients' (also called 'installers', 'download managers', etc.) on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, etc. Download clients supposedly ease the download process, however, they are simply developed to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of third party applications.
In some cases, these additional apps are concealed under the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options. Although these advertised programs are described as legitimate, they are mostly adware or malware. To avoid such infections, pay close attention during download of free software to ensure that no additional programs are included.
Furthermore, installation of downloaded software should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any bundled programs listed for installation and allow you to decline them. If you have installed HQ Video Pro, the following removal guide will help you to remove this adware from your system.
