Shop Time Ads

What is Shop Time?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Shop Time is a dubious browser extension claiming to improve the Internet browsing experience by providing features such as coupons and comparison shopping. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, Shop Time is classed as adware.
The developers of this rogue application employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install Shop Time without users' permission.
Once installed on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, Shop Time generates intrusive online advertisements including pop-up, coupon, search, interstitial, transitional, full-page, and banner ads. It is highly probable that clicking these ads will redirect you to bogus websites, and therefore, your computer might become infected.
As with regular adware, Shop Time collects various software and hardware information regarding Internet browsing activity. The type of recorded data includes Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, websites visited, pages viewed, and search queries entered into search engines.
This information may contain personally identifiable details, and therefore, the presence of Shop Time adware on your system may lead to serious privacy issues. SuperWeb LLC has released several hundred rogue extensions identical to Shop Time. Magic Ball, Product Deals, and Information Cloud are just some examples.
This company intentionally releases identical plug-ins under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus software.
No applications released by SuperWeb LLC (including Shop Time) provide any value for the user - they are developed to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to eliminate Shop Time from your system immediately.
Research shows that Shop Time is commonly distributed via small programs called 'download managers' (also called 'download clients', 'installers', etc.) on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com.
Download managers are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of third party applications - or simply by concealing their installation under the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options.
These promoted applications are described as '100% legitimate and virus-free', however, careless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections. To avoid such infections, pay close attention during the download of free software and ensure that no additional apps are included.
In addition, installation of downloaded software should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any third party application listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
If you have installed Shop Time, and you experience 'Ads by Shop Time', 'Shop Time Deals', and 'Powered by Shop Time' advertisements while surfing the Internet, the following instructions will guide you through removal of Shop Time adware from your system.
