What is ysearchservice?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, ysearchservice is a rogue browser extension claiming to provide features such as coupons and comparison shopping, thereby enhancing the Internet browsing experience. Although some users may find this extension legitimate and useful, ysearchservice is classed as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The reason for these negative associations is a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software).
Following infiltration by ysearchservice on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, users will observe intrusive online advertisements such as banner, pop-up, interstitial, transitional, and full-page ads. These generated advertisements often redirect to bogus websites, and therefore, clicking them exposes your computer to risk of infection.
In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually tracked, since ysearchservice records various software and hardware information including URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, unique identifier numbers, and IP addresses.
This collected data may contain personally identifiable details, and therefore, the behavior of this extension can lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft. The developers of this PUP have released several hundred rogue add-ons identical to ysearchservice.
This company releases identical applications such as Shop Time, Product Deals, Magic Ball, and Information Cloud under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites.
Neither ysearchservice, nor any of these other applications, provide any real value for the user - they are developed to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements and by sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall ysearchservice from your system immediately.
Recently, adware-type applications such as ysearchservices are distributed via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com.
Download managers supposedly ease the download process, however, they are employed to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of third party applications together with free downloaded software. In some cases, these additional applications are simply hidden under the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options.
Although these promoted apps are often described as '100% legitimate and virus-free', reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections. To avoid this situation, closely analyse each step of the free software download process and ensure that no additional programs are included.
Furthermore, downloaded programs should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options, rather than 'Typical', 'Regular', or 'Quick' - this will reveal any concealed apps listed for installation and allow you to uncheck them.
If you have installed ysearchservice, and you observe 'Ads by ysearchservice', 'Powered by ysearchservice', and 'ysearchservice Deals' advertisements, the following instructions will guide you through removal of this adware from your system.
