Bud Ransomware

What is Bud?

Bud is a ransomware-type virus discovered by malware security researcher, S!Ri. Judging on appearance, Bud may seem similar to another high-risk ransomware virus called Jigsaw. Therefore, there is a high probability that Bud is a new variant of this malware.

Once infiltrated, Bud encrypts stored data. This malware appends filenames with the ".bud" extension (for example, "sample.jpg" is renamed to "sample.jpg.bud"). Once files are encrypted, the ransomware virus opens a pop-up window containing a ransom-demand message.

   
ZONEware Ransomware

What is ZONEware?

ZONEware is a ransomware-type virus discovered by malware security researcher, Lawrence Abrams. Following successful infiltration, ZONEware encrypts stored data and appends the ".ZW" extension to the name of each encrypted file. For instance, "sample.jpg" is renamed to "sample.jpg.WZ".

Following successful encryption, this virus opens a pop-up window and creates a text file ("Ransom Note.txt"), placing it in each folder containing encrypted files.

Developers present Search My Tabs as a legitimate application that supposedly enhances the web browsing experience by allowing them to search the list of open browser tabs. On initial inspection, Search My Tabs may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app often infiltrates systems without consent.

Furthermore, it delivers various intrusive online advertisements and continually monitors browsing activity. For these reasons, Search My Tabs is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.

What is LiveShoppers?

LiveShoppers is a dubious application that supposedly helps to save time and money when shopping online by providing various coupons, notifications of special deals/discounts available on online stores, and enabling other similar features.

On initial inspection, LiveShoppers may seem legitimate, however, this app is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. InfinityLock Ransomware

What is InfinityLock?

InfinityLock is a ransomware-type virus discovered by malware security researcher, Leo. Cyber criminals proliferate InfinityLock by presenting it as a 'crack' for Adobe Premiere Pro software. Once infiltrated, InfinityLock encrypts files and appends filenames with an extension containing a number of random letters and digits.

Following successful encryption, the virus creates three files ("InfinityLock_Recover_Instructions.png", "InfinityLock_UniqeID.txt", and "InfinityLock_Recover_Instructions.txt"), placing them on the desktop. The .png file is also set as the desktop wallpaper. In addition, InfinityLock opens a command prompt window.

   
Exolocked Ransomware

What is Exolocked?

Exolocked (also called “Atchbo Ransomware 2.0v”) is a ransomware-type virus discovered by MalwareHunterTeam. Once infiltrated, Exolocked encrypts various files and appends filenames with the ".exolocked" extension. For example, "sample.jpg" is renamed to "sample.jpg.exolocked".

Updated variants of this ransomware use .exo extension for encrypted files. Ransom demanding message is presented in UnlockYourFiles[0-49].txt files. Following successful encryption, Exolocked opens a pop-up window containing a ransom-demand message. Note that this window disappears after rebooting the system.

   
Pendor Ransomware

What is Pendor?

Discovered by MalwareHunterTeam, Pendor is a ransomware-type virus that stealthily infiltrates systems and encrypts stored data.

During encryption, Pendor appends filenames with the ".pnr" extension (for example, "sample.jpg" is renamed to "sample.jpg.pnr") and sets a red circle with an 'x' symbol as the icon for all encrypted files. Following successful encryption, Pendor creates a number of files (including "pendor.exe" and "READ_THIS_FILE_1.TXT") placing them on the desktop.
