What is Cryakl?

Cryakl is a ransomware-type virus that stealthily infiltrates systems and encrypts various data. During encryption, Cryakl renames files using the "email-[EMAIL ADDRESS].ver-[CL MALWARE VERSION].id-[VICTIM’S ID]-[MONTH]@[DAY]@[YEAR] [HOUR]@[MINUTE]@[SECOND] [AM/PM].randomname-[RANDOM FILE NAME].[RANDOM EXTENSION]" pattern.

For example, "sample.jpg" might renamed to a filename such as "email-mserbinov@aol.com.ver-CL 1.3.1.0.id-@@@@@9078-A19A.randomname-CDEFNNOPPQQRSTTUUVVWXYYYZAABCC.DDE". There are many variants of this malware (each with a different cyber criminal email address) and, therefore, the filenames vary.

Updated variants of this ransomware use .cs16, .fairytail and .doubleoffset extensions for encrypted files. Following successful encryption, Cryakl creates a text file ("README.txt:"), placing it on the desktop and changes the desktop wallpaper.
