What is Customer Promos?
The developers (SuperWeb LLC) state that Customer Promos is a legitimate application that significantly improves the Internet browsing experience - "We're passionate about improving web by providing the best tools to enhance the browsing experience, from searching the web to comparing online deals to find the best prices.
We've combined all of our great ideas into the Customer Promos product suite, a FREE set of tools that work to make your browsing experience... better!" These fake promises often trick users into believing that Customer Promos is a legitimate and useful app, however, it is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
This PUP infiltrates systems without users’ permission, generates intrusive online advertisements, and monitors browsing activity.
Following successful infiltration, Customer Promos generates pop-up, banner, interstitial, transitional, full-page, coupon, price comparison, search, and other similar advertisements. These are displayed using a ‘virtual layer’ and, thus, none originate from users' visited websites.
Third party ads often conceal underlying website content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience. Furthermore, some lead to untrusted sites containing malicious content - clicking them is risky and will result in high-risk adware or even malware infections.
Another downside of this program is data tracking. Customer Promos collects IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar information relating to Internet browsing activity.
This information might contain personally identifiable details that SuperWeb LLC shares with third parties who often misuse personal data to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of Customer Promos adware on your system may lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You should uninstall this PUP immediately.
Customer Promos Privacy Policy statement regarding data collection:
We only share or sell your non-public personal information with non-affiliated third parties when we believe doing so is permitted by you or authorized by this Privacy Policy. In addition, the Company may share your personal information with our parent, subsidiary or affiliate companies without restriction.
Customer Promos is not the only application developed by SuperWeb LLC - this company has released hundreds of identical adware-type programs such as Facts Right, High Unite, Yula, and Search Window. All claim to be legitimate, however, none provide the functionality promised.
SuperWeb LLC aims to generate as much revenue as possible and, therefore, this company intentionally releases identical applications under different names to prevent detection by anti-spyware and anti-virus suites. In fact, Customer Promos, and other identical applications, merely generate intrusive ads and collect personally identifiable information.
How did Customer Promos install on my computer?
SuperWeb LLC employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of rogue programs with regular software/apps. For this reason, many users install Customer Promos inadvertently. Users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software.
Aware of this, developers intentionally hide this program within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings. By skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and put their privacy at risk.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Do not rush the download or installation processes. By closely analyzing each step and opting-out of additionally-included programs, you will be able to protect your system from adware-type programs.
