Search.searchgeniusinfo.com Redirect

What is SearchGenius?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, SearchGenius is a deceptive application identical to Search Know and Results Hub. By offering various useful features, SearchGenius often tricks users into believing that it is legitimate and useful, however, this application is categorized as a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
One of the main reasons for these negative associations is stealth installation without users' consent. Furthermore, SearchGenius tracks Internet browsing activity, generates intrusive online advertisements, and modifies web browser settings.
SearchGenius targets Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. After assigning the default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL options to search.searchgeniusinfo.com, SearchGenius installs several browser plug-ins and extensions to prevent users from reverting these changes.
As well as redirecting users to search.searchgeniusinfo.com, SearchGenius also causes unwanted browser redirects to searchinterneat-a.akamaihd.net. Furthermore, this PUP generates intrusive online advertisements that conceal visited website content. This significantly diminishes the Internet browsing experience.
Note that some of these advertisements redirect to malicious sites, hence, clicking them may lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
SearchGenius continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity and gathers various types of browsing-related data including IP addresses (to determine geo-location), search queries entered into search engines, websites visited, pages viewed, activity on those pages, unique identifier numbers and other similar data.
This information might contain personally identifiable details that SuperWeb LLC shares with cooperating third party companies who can misuse it to generate revenue. Therefore, SearchGenius poses a direct threat to users' privacy. For these reasons, SearchGenius adware should be uninstalled immediately.
SearchGenius Privacy Policy statement regarding data collection:
We only share or sell your non-public personal information with non-affiliated third parties when we believe doing so is permitted by you or authorized by this Privacy Policy. In addition, the Company may share your personal information with our parent, subsidiary or affiliate companies without restriction.
SuperWeb LLC has released several hundred identical potentially unwanted programs including, for example, Price Clip, Candle Jar, and Lucky Bright. Unlike SearchGenius, these applications do not cause unwanted browser redirects, however, they collect personally identifiable information and generate ads.
By falsely claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience, apps developed by SuperWeb LLC attempt to trick users to install, however, none of the promoted applications provide the functionality promised. Their purpose is to generate revenue for the developers, record user/system information, and deliver advertisements. They provide no significant value for users.
How did SearchGenius install on my computer?
All apps designed by SuperWeb LLC are distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party programs with regular software/apps) and, thus, most infiltrate the system without users’ permission.
The reason why bundling is so popular and effective is that many users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software. The developers know that they often skip most steps during these processes and, thus, intentionally conceal bogus programs within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
Therefore, users who rush the download and installation processes often install potentially unwanted software inadvertently, thereby exposing their systems to risk of further infection and putting their own privacy at risk.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Never rush the download and installation processes. Use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings and closely analyze each step. In addition, all bundled software should be cancelled, since third party apps are mostly rogue.
