MediaPlayVid Ads

What is MediaPlayVid?
MediaPlayVid is a dubious plug-in identical to MediaPlayerVid, MediaPlayerVids0, Media Player Enhance, and a number of other apps.
MediaPlayVid claims to improve the quality of online videos. On initial inspection, this add-on may seem legitimate and useful, however, it is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). After stealthily infiltrating Internet browsers, MediaPlayVid displays intrusive online advertisements and tracks Internet browsing activity.
The types of advertisements displayed by MediaPlayVid include pop-up, pop-under, in-text, interstitial and search ads. Although these ads may seem harmless, some might redirect to infectious sites, thereby causing further computer infections.
In addition, the displayed ads do not originate from the visited site, conceal the underlying content, and therefore, diminish the Internet browsing experience. To achieve this, developers of MediaPlayVid employ a virtual layer allowing placement of third party graphical content on visited websites.
MediaPlayVid gathers various Internet browsing-related information including Internet search queries (entered into the Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other similar search engines), visited websites, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine geolocations), and other collected data that may contain personally identifiable details.
This gathered data is later shared with third parties and can be misused to generate revenue. For these reasons, having an information-tracking application such as MediaPlayVid installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly recommend that you uninstall this adware immediately.
MediaPlayVid is identical to the aforementioned apps, but also shares similarities to hundreds of other adware-type extensions including SaveNewaAppz, LolliScan, Jabuticaba, and DigiSaver. These are just some examples of bogus applications also claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience.
Adware-type apps attempt to give the impression of legitimate and useful software, however, rather than providing the promised functionality, they display intrusive online advertisements and gather various user/system information. Their purpose is to generate revenue for the developers - users receive no real value.
How did MediaPlayVid install on my computer?
This bogus software is usually distributed as a 'bundle' with regular applications that are likely to be free and available for download on freeware download websites. Many users are unaware that the developers intentionally hide rogue applications within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
By skipping this section, users inadvertently install PUPs such as MediaPlayVid. The developers are concerned only with the amount of revenue generated, and thus, never properly disclose installation of bogus applications.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of apps such as MediaPlayVid can be prevented by taking a few simple steps. Firstly, closely observe the download and installation procedures - following each step, and opting-out of all third party applications listed for download/installation.
Secondly, use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled programs listed for installation and allow you to cancel them.
