What is DigiSaver?
The DigiSaver application claims to enhance Internet browsing by enabling comparison shopping, displaying coupons, and providing other similar features. On initial inspection, this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, DigiSaver is considered to be adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
After stealthily infiltrating Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox), DigiSaver tracks Internet browsing activity and displays intrusive online advertisements.
DigiSaver generates various types of intrusive online advertisements such as banner, pop-up, coupon, search, and many others. To achieve this, the developers employ a virtual layer, which enables placement of any graphical content on visited websites.
Note that the generated ads do not originate from the visited site, therefore, underlying content is concealed and the Internet browsing experience is significantly diminished. Most ads redirect to the Advertising Support website, however, some redirect to dubious website containing infectious content.
Therefore, clicking these advertisements is risky and may cause further computer infections. In addition, DigiSaver is known to track Internet browsing activity and collect various software and hardware information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other collected data, which may contain personally identifiable details (for example, PayPal or bank account logins/passwords).
The developers of DigiSaver may share this collected data with third parties, and thus, having this adware installed can lead to various privacy issues. If you are concerned with your privacy and Internet browsing safety, uninstall DigiSaver adware immediately.
DigiSaver is identical to Provider, shoppi, adsupply, and others. Furthermore, there are hundreds of PUPs that have similar characteristics. Adware-type apps claim to improve the Internet browsing exprience in various ways, however, they deliver no real value for users. The purpose of applications such as DigiSaver is to generate revenue by displaying ads and collecting data.
How did DigiSaver install on my computer?
The developers employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to install DigiSaver on Internet browsers without users' permission. Many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software, and therefore, bundling software within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings is extremely effective for developers.
Many users are unaware that bogus apps are likely to be concealed. Thus, by skipping most/all of the download and installation procedure steps, they expose their systems to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The chosen apps should be downloaded and installed with caution. Closely analyze the download/install processes and decline all offers to install additional software. Furthermore, both of these processes should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any PUPs listed for installation and enable you to opt-out.
