BetterBrowse Adware

What is BetterBrowse?
Created by SuperWeb LLC, BetterBrowse is a deceptive application claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other similar features
- "We're passionate about improving web by providing the best tools to enhance the browsing experience, from searching the web to comparing online deals to find the best prices. We've combined all of our great ideas into the BetterBrowse product suite, a FREE set of tools that work to make your browsing experience... better!"
These claims may trick some users into believing that BetterBrowse is legitimate and useful, however, be aware that it is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). These associations are made due to rogue behavior exhibited by BetterBrowse.
This application infiltrates systems without users' permission, displays intrusive online advertisements, and collects Internet browsing-related information.
Types of displayed advertisements include banner, pop-up, coupon, interstitial, transitional, full-page, among many others. To achieve this, the developers employ a virtual layer that enables placement of third party content not originating from the visited website. The displayed advertisements hide underlying content, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
These ads may lead to rogue websites rather than those advertised. Therefore, clicking them can lead to high-risk computer infections. Another downside of BetterBrowse adware is information tracking. This application continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity and collects various data that might contain personally identifiable information.
The gathered information is stored on a remote server and later shared with third parties who can misuse it to generate revenue. Such behavior might cause serious privacy issues or even identity theft, and for this reason, you are strongly advised to uninstall BetterBrowse adware.
BetterBrowse Privacy Policy statement regarding data collection:
We only share or sell your non-public personal information with non-affiliated third parties when we believe doing so is permitted by you or authorized by this Privacy Policy. In addition, the Company may share your personal information with our parent, subsidiary or affiliate companies without restriction.
The developers of this application have released hundreds of identical browser plug-ins under different names including rinkela, Gravity Space, Wander Burst, and Swift Record.
This is a measure to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites. All applications developed by SuperWeb LLC (including BetterBrowse) offer various valuable features, however, rather than providing the functionality promised, these dubious add-ons display intrusive online advertisements and collect personally identifiable information, thereby generating revenue for the developers.
How did BetterBrowse install on my computer?
SuperWeb LLC distributes its products using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party apps along with regular software. The bundling method is effective, since many users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing free software.
They rush the download/installation processes, are unaware that rogue applications are hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, skip these steps, thereby inadvertently installing rogue applications.
The developers are concerned only with the amount of revenue generated, which is dependent on the number of applications distributed. Therefore, they do not properly disclose installation of apps such as BetterBrowse.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Your chosen software should be downloaded from the official website. If you are using a freeware download site, closely analyze the entire download process and ensure that only the chosen application is downloaded.
Furthermore, installation of downloaded programs should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
