What is Pricezilla?
Pricezilla is a rogue application claiming to save time and money by finding the best deals available on shopping websites. Although this functionality may seem legitimate, Pricezilla is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
This application employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to stealth-install as a third-party application together with regular software. Following infiltration, Pricezilla generates intrusive online advertisements, which are likely to lead to bogus websites, and therefore, your computer may become infected.
In addition, Pricezilla monitors users' Internet browsing activity and collects various data including IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, content on these pages, and other recorded information that may be personally identifiable. Information tracking can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
Pricezilla is similar to other adware including Web Protector, Price Turtle, and Befrugal - all useless to the user. These rogue applications are developed to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected information with third parties. For these reasons, Pricezilla should be uninstalled from your system immediately.
Today, most adware (including Pricezilla) is distributed using small programs called 'download managers' on popular freeware download websites such as soft32.com, softonic.com, etc. Download managers offer installation of third-party applications that are presented as '100% legitimate and virus-free'.
Despite these promises, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections, such as Pricezilla. To avoid this situation, closely inspect each step of the free software download procedure and never accept offers to install additional programs.
Furthermore, downloaded applications should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options - this will reveal any third-party apps listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed Pricezilla, the following removal guide will help you to eliminate this adware from your system.
