What is PaceItApp?
PaceItApp is an updated version of PaceItUp, which is developed by Virtue Interactive Ltd who claim that this browser add-on is a useful tool to increase Internet speed. Although this extension may seem legitimate and useful, PaceItApp is adware. Virtue Interactive Ltd employ a deceptive free software marketing method called 'bundling' to distribute PaceItUp.
Bundling allows stealth installation of applications together with the chosen software. Thus, users commonly inadvertently install PaceItUp when downloading free software from freeware download websites without due attention.
Once the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox browsers are infected, intrusive online advertisements (banner, pop-up/under, display, etc.) are displayed. Most of these lead to dubious websites and risk computer infection.
PaceItApp also monitors users' software and hardware information, which can be personally identifiable. This recorded information includes IP addresses (to determine users' demographic locations), unique identifier numbers, browser data (websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, cookies, web beacons, etc.), and other details.
Information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Most adware-type applications (for example, MovieDea, ConvertAd, WebUnited, MediaPlayerNewVersion, Eppink, etc.) have similar behavior, however, none (including PaceItApp) provide any useful features - they are developed to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to eliminate PaceItApp from your system.
At time of research, adware-type applications were mostly distributed on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, etc. These websites employ small programs called 'download clients' to monetize their traffic and free services by offering installation of other programs together with the chosen software.
Although the developers claim that these advertised applications are '100% legitimate and virus-free', most are adware or malware. To avoid system infection, inspect each step of the free software download process and uncheck all additionally-included apps.
Furthermore, installation of downloaded software should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal all programs listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. This will prevent infiltration of adware/malware-type applications. If your system has been infected with PaceItApp adware, read this guide and eliminate PaceItApp from your system.
