Ads by Web United

What is Web United?
Web United claims to enable coupons, comparison shopping, and other similar features that will supposedly enhance the Internet browsing experience.
Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, Web United is an adware-type browser plug-in, which is distributed using a deceptive free software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the user's chosen software).
After successful installation on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' consent, Web United generates intrusive online advertisements and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
The generated advertisements (for example, banner, search, interstitial, transitional, pop-up, etc.) often lead to bogus websites - clicking these may result in high-risk adware or malware infections.
The type of information collected includes IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages, viewed, search queries, unique identifier numbers, and other details that may be personally identifiable. Be aware that this data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
The company responsible for the development of Web United (SuperWeb LLC) has released over one hundred identical potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). Box Green, GrabRez, Wild West, and Nano Surfer are just some examples from many.
These applications are intentionally released under different names to prevent detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites, none of which provide any real value for the user - they are developed to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to uninstall adware-type extensions such as Web United from your system.
At time of research, small programs called 'download managers' were used by freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, and soft32.com to monetize their free services. Adware was also distributed via these applications.
Download managers (also called 'installers', 'download clients', and so on) offer installation of additional programs together with chosen software. Advertised applications are commonly presented as '100% legitimate and virus-free', however, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be avoided by closely analysing each step of the free software download procedure and ensuring that no additional applications are included.
Furthermore, installation of downloaded applications should be performed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any hidden programs listed for installation and allow you to decline them. If you have installed Web United, the following instructions will help you to remove this adware form your system.
