What is MovieDea?
MovieDea is presented as a legitimate browser extension allowing users to find information about various movies and TV series. This browser add-on may appear to be legitimate and useful, however, MovieDea is categorized as adware.
Using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling', this potentially unwanted program (PUP) stealthily installs on computers together with other software and without users' consent.
After successful installation on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, MovieDea generates various intrusive online advertisements such as banners, pop-ups, in-text, and other similar ads. Be aware that advertisements generated by this rogue application (and other similar applications) usually leads to dubious websites and your computer may become infected.
MovieDea records various software and hardware information that is likely to be personally identifiable. This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Ziftr, MixVideoPlayer, Web United, and BestPricesApp are just some examples of adware infections similar to MovieDea.
Although these applications claim to provide various useful features, none are of any value to the user. PUPs such as MovieDea are developed to generate revenue by sharing collected data with third parties and the display of intrusive ads. Therefore, MovieDea should be uninstalled from your system immediately.
Most popular freeware download websites, including softonic.com, soft32.com, download.com and many others, employ small programs called 'download clients' (also called 'installers', 'download managers', etc.) to monetize their traffic and free services.
Download clients offer installation of additional programs together with the chosen software, and although it is stated that these promoted apps are '100% legitimate and virus-free', most are adware or malware. To avoid installation of MovieDea, closely inspect each step of the free software download procedure and ensure no other applications are included.
Additionally, use the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options when installing downloaded software - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. The following removal instructions will guide you through MovieDea adware removal.
