How to remove the Login Center (Login Center Tab) browser hijacker
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Login Center?
Login Center (also known as Login Center Tab) is rogue software endorsed as a tool for quick access to email accounts and other online services. It operates by making modifications to browsers to promote hp.hlogincenter.co (a fake search engine). This browser hijacker also monitors users' browsing activity.
Due to the dubious techniques used to proliferate Login Center, it is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA). Login Center is often distributed with another PUA called Hide My History.
Browser hijackers primarily target Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and other popular browsers. Following successful installation, this software assigns the addresses of bogus search engines as the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs.
Login Center promotes hp.hlogincenter.co in this manner. Therefore, each search query typed into the URL bar and each new browser tab/window opened redirects to hp.hlogincenter.co. Fake search engines are usually unable to provide unique results, and so they tend to redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Google, Yahoo, Bing and other legitimate sites.
The web searcher of Login Center (hp.hlogincenter.co) is no exception to this: it redirects to Yahoo (search.yahoo.com). Recovering an affected browser is impossible without removing the browser hijacker, since any changes users try to make to their browsers are automatically reset, if access to the browser settings is permitted at all.
Login Center has data tracking capabilities. It can record users' browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The collected information is typically shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), intent on misusing it for profit.
Therefore, the presence of data-tracking software on systems can lead to financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device and user safety, you are strongly advised to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-is immediately upon detection.

Weather Discover, My Recipe Finder, Charming Tab and SportStreamSearch are some examples of other browser hijackers. They may seem legitimate and harmless, and users are often enticed into download/installation with offers of "useful" functionality.
Despite how good these features may sound, they are rarely operational. In fact, this is true of most PUAs. The sole purpose of these unwanted apps is to generate revenue at users' expense. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs hijack browsers, cause redirects, run intrusive advertisement campaigns and gather private data.
How did Login Center install on my computer?
Some PUAs (including Login Center) have "official" download web pages, however, they are commonly distributed via the download/installation set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling". By rushing through download/installation processes (e.g. by ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, etc.), many users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content onto their device. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these applications as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to stealthily download/install PUAs without users' consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all products before download/installation or purchase. Use only official and verified download channels. Untrusted sources such as unofficial and free file-hosting websites, P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.) and other third party downloaders can offer deceptive and bundled content.
When downloading/installing, it is important to read the terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, and so on. Intrusive advertisements typically seem normal, however, they can redirect to dubious sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).
If you encounter these ads/redirects, check the system and remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with Login Center, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
