Remove unwanted apps that open allmeganews.com and similar web pages

Also Known As: Ads by allmeganews.com
Damage level: Medium

What is allmeganews[.]com?

There are many rogue websites similar to allmeganews[.]com. Others examples include rdsb2[.]club, hesterinoc[.]info and cicort[.]com. Usually, these web pages display dubious content or redirect visitors to other untrusted, potentially malicious websites.

Commonly, they are opened by browsers that have potentially unwanted apps (PUAs) installed on them. Therefore, most users do not visit allmeganews[.]com or other, similar sites intentionally.

allmeganews[.]com pop-up redirects

Installed PUAs open sites such as allmeganews[.]com in a new browser window or tab. When opened/visited, these load dubious content or open about two or three other sites of this kind. These actions depend on the geolocations of visitors. The pages often demand permission to show notifications using a 'clickbait' technique.

I.e., they deceive visitors into clicking the "Allow" button in a pop-up window - allmeganews[.]com claims that, by clicking the button, visitors are able to access a file. If allowed, however, these sites start to display notifications containing deceptive ads, links to other untrusted pages, and dubious content.

Furthermore, most PUAs track information. Commonly, they target information relating to users' browsing habits including, for example, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, IP addresses and other data. Some PUAs can access private, sensitive details as well.

Developers sell the data to third parties (often cyber criminals) who can misuse it to generate revenue in various ways. PUAs can also be designed to serve intrusive advertisements. In most cases, they feed users with coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups and other ads.

People who click these ads are usually redirected to untrusted, potentially malicious websites, or they allow the ads to execute scripts designed to download or install unwanted applications. Therefore, never download or install PUAs. They can cause problems relating to online privacy, browsing safety, and some users might even become victims of identity theft.

Most PUAs are useless. They deliver no valid features or any other value, and yet they are often advertised as useful, legitimate apps. PUAs promote dubious web pages, gather information relating to users' browsing habits and serve advertisements. You should uninstall all PUAs immediately.

How did adware install on my computer?

Generally, PUAs are distributed via a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". This is used trick people into downloading and installing unwanted apps with other software. Developers include the unwanted apps into the download/installation set-ups of other programs as 'additional offers' and hide related information in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings.

Many users fail to check and change these settings, thereby allowing included PUAs to be downloaded and/or installed. Sometimes unwanted downloads and installations are caused by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are advised to download software only from official websites and via direct links. Third party downloaders and installers, torrent clients, eMule (and other Peer-to-Peer networks), unofficial pages, and other similar channels are often used to distribute unwanted, even malicious software.

Check all download/installation set-ups for "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings. Decline offers to download or install unwanted apps. Do not click ads displayed on untrusted websites relating to gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc., since these might open other web pages of this kind and can cause unwanted downloads/installations.

Remove any unwanted, unknown/suspicious plug-ins, add-ons and extensions installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
