Remove apps that open hesterinoc.info and similar sites

What is hesterinoc[.]info?
hesterinoc[.]info is one of many sites that redirect visitors to other untrusted websites or load dubious content. More examples of pages that function in this way are promodayz[.]com, overiesarticu[.]info and pushpush[.]net. Typically, these web pages are opened through dubious ads, rogue web pages or potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) installed on the browser.
Most users do not visit websites such as hesterinoc[.]info intentionally.
When visited, hesterinoc[.]info opens about two or three other dubious sites that might promote and distribute unwanted applications, contain rogue advertisements, or load dubious content. Typically, the actions of websites such as hesterinoc[.]info depend on visitors' geolocations.
Like most other pages of this type, hesterinoc[.]info attempts to deceive visitors into giving it permission to show notifications. It claims that, by clicking the "Allow" button, visitors will prove that they are not robots, however, this simply allows hesterinoc[.]info to show notifications that might contain deceptive ads, web links to untrusted web pages, and so on.
Furthermore, apps that open these rogue pages deploy intrusive advertisements and gather data. For example, they serve coupons, banners, surveys, pop-up ads, and other ads that can promote (open) untrusted websites or cause download/installation of other unwanted, potentially malicious programs.
PUAs often collect browsing-related details including IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, geolocations, etc. They might also record private, sensitive information. Developers sell the information to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue in other ways.
People who have PUAs installed on their browsers and/or operating systems can become victims of identity theft, experience problems relating to browsing safety, online privacy, and other issues. Therefore, never download or install PUAs.

Commonly, PUAs are advertised as tools that supposedly provide various features, improve the browsing experience and are useful in other ways. In fact, most do not operate as promised. PUAs simply help the developers to generate revenue and can cause serious problems. If PUAs are installed on the browser and/or computer, remove them immediately.
How did adware install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" by including them into the download/installation set-ups of other programs as 'additional offers'. These offers are mentioned in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings or options of the set-ups.
Many users fail to check and change these settings when they download and install programs. By leaving the default settings unchanged, they allow for PUAs to be downloaded and installed. Sometimes unwanted downloads and installations are caused when people click deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Do not use third party downloaders, unofficial websites, Peer-to-Peer networks (eMule, torrent clients) or other similar channels to download software. The same applies to installation via third party installers. The safest way is to use official websites and direct links.
Check download and installation set-ups for offers to download/install unwanted, additionally-included apps and decline them. Note that intrusive ads that appear on dubious web pages can open other websites of this kind or cause download/installation of PUAs. Therefore, never click ads on dubious web pages.
Remove any suspicious/unknown, unwanted extensions, plug-ins and add-ons installed on the browser immediately. Also remove programs of this kind that are installed on the computer/operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
