VKOKAdBlock Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is VKOKAdBlock?
VKOKAdBlock is an adware-type application that is categorized as a PUA (potentially unwanted application). Most adware-type apps are categorized in this way. Furthermore, many users install these applications unintentionally - they then go on to deliver various advertisements and gather information.
As with most PUAs of this type, VKOKAdBlock gathers data such as IP addresses, keystrokes, URLs of visited websites, geo-locations, search queries, etc. Some of the data might also contain personally identifiable or personal details. These are usually shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private information to generate revenue.
This misuse of information puts users at risk of problems with online privacy and browsing safety. Some users might even have their identities stolen.
Furthermore, adware-type PUAs deliver intrusive advertisements (coupons, banners, surveys, and so on) that can lead to untrustworthy websites or even execute scripts that download and install even more potentially unwanted applications.
Furthermore, these ads are displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content. You are advised to uninstall VKOKAdBlock immediately.

Most adware-type applications are similar and promoted as supposedly providing 'useful features', however, few deliver the functionality promised. These apps are usually designed only to generate revenue for their developers. Other examples of similar adware-type apps are Somefungames, GamesOnlineNetwork, and GameFunNetwork.
How did VKOKAdBlock install on my computer?
Apps such as VKOKAdBlock are usually installed through clicked intrusive ads or when software developers use the "bundling" method. Bundling is stealth installation of third party apps (PUAs) with other regular software.
Software developers hide PUAs in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of installation processes - they do not disclose information regarding the presence of this additional software and it often goes unnoticed (especially if users skip installation steps without carefully studying them).
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
We recommend that you download software using reliable and official sources. Do not use torrents, third party software downloaders, or other similar sources. Third party downloaders are often are monetized by promoting potentially unwanted applications. Furthermore, ensure that you do not leave any unwanted offers or additional software selected/included.
Check all available "Advanced", "Custom" and other similar options/settings, and only then finish the installation. Avoid clicking intrusive ads, especially when visiting dubious websites - these ads redirect users to gambling, adult dating, pornography, and other untrustworthy websites that might be malicious and cause problems (such as computer infections or privacy issues).
If you encounter these advertisements, check installed extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons on your browser, and programs on your computer. Uninstall any unwanted/unknown entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with VKOKAdBlock, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
