Somefungames Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Somefungames?
Somefungames is an adware-type potentially unwanted application (PUA) that supposedly provides users with access to a number of games directly from their web browsers. This may seem useful for online game enthusiasts, however, most users install these applications unintentionally. Furthermore, they deliver intrusive ads and collect data.
As soon as Somefungames is installed, it delivers advertisements such as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc. These are displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site, which conceals underlying content.
They are annoying and, once clicked, often redirect users to untrustworthy sites or even run scripts that download and install potentially unwanted applications. Therefore, systems might be forced to install even more PUAs. Furthermore, some PUAs might cause high-risk computer infections.
Apps such as Somefungames gather information, including IP addresses, search queries, keystrokes, URLs of visited websites, geo-locations, and so on.
PUAs also collect personal/sensitive details that are shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse them to generate revenue, thus putting users at risk of privacy/browsing safety issues or even identity theft. If you care about your online safety, we recommend that you uninstall Somefungames immediately.

There are many adware-type apps on the internet. Examples include GamesOnlineNetwork, GameFunNetwork, and BlastGamesnetwork.
They are all similar or virtually identical (installed as web browser apps and programs on the operating system) and share an identical purpose: to generate revenue for developers by collecting data and delivering ads. Few apps of this type deliver the functionality promised or give any real value for regular users.
How did Somefungames install on my computer?
PUAs often have official websites, however, in most cases users install them unintentionally. This usually happens when software developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", a way to trick users into installing PUAs together with regular software.
Information about bundled apps is not properly disclosed and PUAs are hidden in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings or options of the installation processes. In some cases, clicked intrusive ads might cause inadvertent installations. Rushing and skipping steps, or clicking intrusive ads can lead to PUA installations.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Be cautious when installing software. Check "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings, and deselect additionally-included PUAs or software. Only then finish the installation. Use trustworthy and official sources when downloading software, and avoid using torrents, third party downloaders (or installers), or other similar software.
Bear in mind that most advertisements may seem legitimate, but some redirect users to untrustworthy/potentially malicious websites. If you continually encounter redirects to suspicious websites (gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on), check the list of installed programs and apps on your computer for any unwanted entries.
The same applies to applications (extensions, plug-ins, add-ons) installed on your web browser. If your computer is already infected with Somefungames, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
