GameFunNetwork Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is GameFunNetwork?
GameFunNetwork is promoted as a useful application that allows users to access thousands of free online games directly from the browser. The features offered may seem useful, but this app is known as an adware-type potentially unwanted application (PUA). These apps are usually installed without users' consent, deliver intrusive ads, and collect data.
Following installation, GameFunNetwork continually delivers intrusive advertisements such as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc. PUAs display them using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content.
When clicked, these ads cause redirects to other untrustworthy sites that might contain malicious content or run scripts that download and install potentially unwanted applications (or malware). Clicking ads delivered by PUAs can result in high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, potentially unwanted applications such as GameFunNetwork often collect information that later is misused to generate revenue by sharing it with third parties (potentially cyber criminals).
The collected data contains IP addresses, geo-locations, URLs of visited websites, keystrokes, search queries, and other similar data, but also can include sensitive or personal data. By sharing this data, PUA developers put users at risk of privacy/browsing safety issues and even identity theft.
We strongly recommend that you uninstall GameFunNetwork and other PUAs of this type immediately.

GameFunNetwork is one of many adware-type applications available. Other examples of similar or identical apps include BlastGamesNetwork, BrainyZanyGames, and BigGamez.
Most of these apps supposedly provide "useful" features (in this case, access to many online games), however, they are often designed only to generate revenue for their developers by collecting data and delivering ads. They pose a direct threat to users' privacy.
How did GameFunNetwork install on my computer?
In most cases, applications such as GameFunNetwork can be dowloaded from their official websites, however, they are more commonly installed through intrusive ads or when software developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Bundling is stealth installation of potentially unwanted applications/programs together with other regular software.
Developers do not disclose these installations properly and hide togue applications in "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual", and other similar sections of the installation processes. PUAs developers are aware that many users skip installation steps without checking these settings/options, and they use this to their advantage.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software (especially if it is free) using official and trustworthy sources. Avoid using third party software downloaders/installers, torrents, etc. Third party software downloaders/installers are usually monetized by promoting PUAs or other rogue apps.
Furthermore, install software with care - study each installation dialog window and check "Advanced", "Custom" (and other similar) sections of the installation processes. Opt-out of unwanted applications (or other offers) and only then finish the installation.
Potentially malicious ads usually seem legitimate, but once clicked, redirect users to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, and so on. If you encounter these ads, check your browser for unwanted entries (extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons) and uninstall all unknown/suspicious applications immediately.
If your computer is already infected with GameFunNetwork, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
