GamesOnlineNetwork Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is GamesOnlineNetwork?
According to the developers, the GamesOnlineNetwork application allows access to many free online games directly from the browser.
This app may seem legitimate and useful, but it is categorized as potentially unwanted application (PUA) - to be precise, an adware-type application. Users often install apps such as GamesOnlineNetwork unintentionally (the apps then gather data and deploy intrusive advertisements).
When installed, GamesOnlineNetwork continually delivers a number of advertisements such as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and so on. These are displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content of visited websites.
This diminishes the browsing experience and, if clicked, they redirect users to potentially malicious/untrustworthy websites or execute scripts that download and install other PUAs, or malware. Clicking these ads can result in high-risk computer infections.
In addition, PUAs record data including IP addresses, keystrokes, geo-locations, search queries, URLs of visited websites, and so on.
The data might also include sensitive or personal information that PUA developers share with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) who misuse private details to generate revenue. These actions can lead to privacy/browsing safety issues or identity theft. Uninstall applications such as GamesOnlineNetwork immediately.

There are many adware-type applications available on the Internet (including GameFunNetwork, BlastGamesNetwork, BrainyZanyGames, etc.).
Typically, they are promoted by offering "useful" features or tools, however, few provide the functionality promised or any other value. In most cases, PUAs are designed only to generate revenue for their developers by delivering intrusive ads and collecting data.
How did GamesOnlineNetwork install on my computer?
Most potentially unwanted applications of this type can be downloaded from their official websites, but few users actually download and install them in this way. More commonly, they install PUAs inadvertently through clicked intrusive ads or together with regular software.
Software developers often trick users into installing PUAs using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Bundling is stealth installation of PUAs together with other software. To achieve this, developers do not disclose information regarding the presence of PUAs and hide them in "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings of the installation processes.
Software developers are aware that many users often skip installation steps without checking the settings - they use this careless behaviour to their advantage.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software using trustworthy and official sources/websites and direct links. Avoid third party software downloaders, torrent clients, and other similar tools to download your software. Install software with care, especially if it is freeware.
Take your time and check "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings, and then deselect unwanted extras (e.g. PUAs) and only then proceed to the next step or complete the installation. There are countless untrustworthy intrusive ads. Some redirect users to potentially malicious or other dubious websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.).
If you encounter these advertisements, check the list of installed applications on your browser for unwanted/unknown extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins. Remove any suspicious entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with GamesOnlineNetwork, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
