Performanceonclick.com POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is performanceonclick.com?
performanceonclick.com is a rogue website designed to cause redirects to other untrustworthy/dubious sites. It is very similar or even identical to com-1a.info, chancce.com, check-now.online, and many others.
Users often visit performanceonclick.com inadvertently, since potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) force redirects to it. Most PUAs also collect/share data and deliver unwanted advertisements.
When a potentially unwanted application infiltrates the system, it opens new browser windows/tabs and redirects users to the performanceonclick.com rogue website, which also triggers unwanted redirects and forces users to visit even more (typically 2-3) untrustworthy sites that might contain malicious content and cause high-risk computer infections.
As mentioned, PUAs collect user-system information (such as geo-locations, keystrokes, visited websites, search queries, IP addresses, and other data that might contain personal and sensitive information). They share the details with third parties (possibly cyber criminals) and use it to generate revenue. These actions can lead to privacy issues or even identity theft.
Another downside of having a potentially unwanted application of this type installed are intrusive ads (coupons, banners, pop-ups, surveys, etc.) that are typically displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content.
These ads redirect users to various untrustworthy websites. Some run scripts that download and install other PUAs. We strongly advise you to uninstall all potentially unwanted applications immediately.

Some PUAs might have slightly different behavior, however, most are very similar or even identical.
They have just one purpose: to generate revenue by collecting (and sharing) information, delivering intrusive ads, and causing unwanted redirects. Developers trick users into downloading them by offering "useful" tools, however, few of these applications deliver the functionality promised or give any other value.
How did adware install on my computer?
Potentially unwanted applications can be downloaded from their official websites, but most users install them inadvertently - through clicked intrusive ads or when installing regular software. Software developers often use the "bundling" method to trick users into installing PUAs.
Bundling is deceptive marketing used to stealthily install potentially unwanted applications together with other regular software.
These installations are often not properly disclosed - developers hide bundled PUAs in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar sections of the installation processes. By skipping installation steps, users commonly install their desired software along with potentially unwanted applications.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To avoid these installations, download software using official and trustworthy sources only. Do not use third party downloaders/installers or torrents to download software.
Carefully analyze each dialog window during software installation - check "Custom", "Advanced" and other options of the installation process, opt-out of unwanted, additional software/offers and only then finish the installation. Bear in mind that some intrusive ads may appear legitimate, however, once clicked they redirect to untrustworthy, potentially malicious websites.
If you accidentally clicked one of these ads and were redirected to a suspicious website (gambling, pornography, adult dating, or similar), close the site immediately and remove any suspicious extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins from your browser, and unwanted/unknown programs from your computer.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
