Check-now.online POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is check-now.online?
Exactly alike or at least very similar to unverf.com, trenced.com, softwareupdate.app anr many others, check-now.online is a rogue website designed to redirect its visitors to other untrustworthy websites. Most users visit check-now.online unintentionally - it's potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that are forcing users to visit it.
PUAs also deliver various advertisements and gather data. Typically, PUAs get installed unknowingly/unintentionally.
Following the infiltration, potentially unwanted applications trigger web browsers to open new windows or tabs and redirect users to check-now.online website. Once a user visits this website, it causes additional (about 2-3) redirects to other untrustworthy and/or potentially malicious websites. Being redirected to such websites could result in various high-risk computer infections.
As we mentioned in our introduction, PUAs also deliver various advertisements, like banners, coupons, surveys, pop-ups and other similar ads. It is very common for these ads to be displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content and conceal underlying content of any website.
Once an ad delivered by potentially unwanted application is clicked it redirects users to various untrustworthy websites, some of them could be malicious. It is known that sometimes these ads execute scripts that are designed to download and install potentially unwanted applications, or malware.
Moreover, PUAs collect IP addresses, search queries, keystrokes, visited websites, geo-locations and other information that could be sensitive or personally identifiable. Once collected this data is shared with third parties and used to generate revenue.
It is possible that collected data will be shared with cyber criminals and users could suffer from various privacy issues or even an identity theft.
Some potentially unwanted applications of this kind are capable of running various background tasks and by doing so they misuse computer's resources and diminish its performance. None of the mentioned things are worth the risk to have a PUA installed and it is strongly recommended to uninstall it immediately.

There are many potentially unwanted applications on the Internet that offer users various "useful" features and aim to give an impression of legitimacy. However, most of them are designed only to generate revenue by providing users with various ads, collecting and sharing information or causing unwanted redirects, and do not deliver the promised functionalities.
How did adware install on my computer?
Many potentially unwanted applications have their official websites where they can be downloaded (usually for free), however, in most cases users install them unknowingly. In other words, users install them by clicking various ads or when developers are using a "bundling" method.
Bundling is a deceptive marketing method used by software developers to install potentially unwanted applications together with other regular software that users actually want to install. Developers typically do not disclose such installations properly and hide bundled software (PUAs) in "Custom"/"Advanced" and other options or settings of the installation processes.
Most users tend to skip the installation steps without paying attention to details and unknowingly allow potentially unwanted applications to be installed. Such careless behaviour often results in various computer infections, privacy issues, diminished browsing experience and various other problems.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Take precautions when downloading and installing software (especially a free one) - do not download software from untrustworthy/unknown websites, using third party software downloaders or torrents. Try to use only official sources and direct links.
Pay attention to the installation details - do not skip the installation steps without checking all the available "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar options first. That applies to checkboxes that often are ticked by default as well. Opt-out all unwanted offers and only then proceed to the next step or finish the installation.
Avoid clicking on various "tempting" ads even if they look legitimate. Cyber criminals invest money into advertisements design so that users could be more easily tricked into clicking them.
If you happen to click one of the ads of this type and got redirected to adult dating, pornography, gambling or other similar suspicious website - close it and check the extensions, add-ons and plug-ins on your installed on your web browser and uninstall any dubious/unwanted entries as soon as possible.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
