What is Ad4Pop?
Ad4Pop is a potentially unwanted program that supposedly allows users to play various arcade games. Initially, this PUP may seem legitimate and useful, however, Ad4Pop is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). One of the main reasons for these negative associations is stealth installation - A4Popo often infiltrates systems without users’ permission.
Furthermore, this PUP continually delivers various intrusive online advertisements and records various information relating to users' web browsing activity.
Following successful installation, Ad4Pop generates pop-up, banner, coupon, and other similar advertisements. To achieve this, Ad4Pop employs a 'virtual layer' - a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site.
None of these ads originate from users' visited websites and often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the web browsing experience. In addition, displayed advertisements often redirect to infectious websites - clicking them risks further adware or malware infections.
Users' web browsing activity is continually monitored, since Ad4Pop continually records various information that might be personally identifiable. Examples include IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar data. Developers share this collected data with third parties who misuse private information to generate revenue.
Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly advise you to uninstall Ad4Pop adware immediately.
There are dozens of potentially unwanted programs identical to Ad4Pop. Examples include ArcadeLoot, Kozzoo, GamesCrystal, and many others.
All offer identical functionality, however, none provide any real value. Adware-type programs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers by collecting personally identifiable information (which is later shared with third parties to generate revenue) and delivering intrusive online advertisements (using the 'PPC' [Pay Per Click] advertising model).
How did Ad4Pop install on my computer?
Research shows that Ad4Pop is mostly distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Developers know that many users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software and intentionally conceal PUPs within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings.
By skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and threaten their privacy. Developers' revenue is dependent on the number of PUPs distributed and, thus, these installations are never properly disclosed.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Many PUPs are distributed using the bundling method. Therefore, the key to computer safety is caution. Never rush when downloading and installing software - closely analyze each step within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings. In addition, decline all offers to download/install additional programs and cancel those already included.
