NextFlix Adware

What is NextFlix?

NextFlix is a dubious application that claims to provide a DNS service, thereby helping users to reach various websites (such as Netflix, Spotify, CBS, etc.) that are unavailable in their country - "Using our DNS service, you can access U.S. restricted content." 

This is a third party app and unrelated to legitimate sites such as Netflix and others (to which NextFlix supposedly provides access).

On initial inspection, NextFlix may seem legitimate and useful, however, it is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. There are three main reasons for these negative associations: stealth infiltration without users' consent, tracking of web browsing activity, and display of intrusive online ads.

What is FirstFlix?

FirstFlix is a bogus application identical to AnyFlix, TopFlix and DNS Unlocker. This application falsely claims to provide a DNS service - "Using our DNS service, you can access U.S. restricted content." These claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimate software, however, be aware that this application often infiltrates systems without users’ permission.

In addition, this dubious application continually delivers intrusive online advertisements and collects various user/system data. For these reasons, FirstFlix is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.

What is LiveSupport Toolbar?

LiveSupport Toolbar is a dubious app that supposedly helps users to perform computer maintenance. By promising 'valuable functionality', LiveSupport Toolbar often tricks users into believing that it is legitimate. In fact, this application is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.

One of the main reasons for these negative associations is stealth installation without users' consent. Following successful infiltration, LiveSupport Toolbar generates intrusive online ads and tracks users' web browsing activity.

   
Safe-search.net Redirect

What is safe-search.net?

Identical to nicesearches.com, hohosearch.com, play-bar-search.com, and a number of other websites, safe-search.net is a fake Internet search engine claiming to be legitimate. By falsely claiming to generate the most relevant search results, this site often tricks users into believing that it is reputable software.

In fact, developers promote safe-search.net using a deceptive marketing method called 'bundling'. In addition, this dubious site continually gathers various information relating to Internet browsing activity.

What is whaatnext.com?

Whaatnext.com is a dubious website claiming to be an Internet search engine. On initial inspection, this site may seem legitimate, however, the developers promote it using dubious software 'installers' that stealthily modify browser settings. In addition, whaatnext.com generates various ads and continually gathers information regarding web browsing activity.

   
ArcadeIsle Ads

What is ArcadeIsle?

Similar to ArcadeCake, ArcadeCandy, and a number of other bogus programs, ArcadeIsle is a dubious app claiming to allow users to play a addictive arcade games.

This functionality may seem legitimate, however, this application usually infiltrates systems without users’ permission. In addition, ArcadeIsle continually monitors web browsing activity and generates intrusive online advertisements. For these reasons, it is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.

   
ZipArcade Adware

What is ZipArcade?

ZipArcade is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) claiming to allow users to play various addictive arcade games. Initially, this app may seem legitimate, however, due to rogue behavior (stealth installation, tracking of web browsing activity, and display of intrusive online advertisements), ZipArcade is classed as adware.

   
RemindMe Ransomware

What is RemindMe?

RemindMe is a ransomware that encrypts various files stored on victims' computers. At time of research, we were unable to confirm how this virus is distributed, however, cyber criminals often spread RemindMe manually. During encryption, this ransomware appends a .remind (or .xcrypt) extension to the name of each compromised file.

Following this, decypt_your_files.html and decypt_your_files.txt files are placed in each folder containing the encrypted files. These files contain a message stating that the files are encrypted and that the victim must pay a ransom to restore them.

YOUGOTHACKED Ransomware

What is YOUGOTHACKED?

YOUGOTHACKED is ransomware-type malware that stealthily encrypts victims' files. This ransomware adds .h3ll.0x0 or .1999 extension to the name of each file encrypted. Following successful encryption, YOUGOTHACKED generates the YOUGOTHACKED.txt and SECRETISHIDINGHEREINSIDE.KEY files, placing them in each folder containing encrypted files.

The ransomware also changes the desktop wallpaper. Both the .txt file and wallpaper contain a message stating that the files have been encrypted, and to restored them, victims must supposedly pay a ransom.
