UnzipPro Adware (Mac)
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is UnzipPro?
UnzipPro is a deceptive application that supposedly allows users to extract and compress data. Judging on appearance alone, UnzipPro may seem legitimate and useful, however, this potentially unwanted program (PUP) often infiltrates systems without permission.
Furthermore, UnzipPro is categorized as adware - a form of unwanted software that feeds users with various intrusive advertisements.
Immediately after infiltration, UnzipPro delivers coupon, banner, and other intrusive advertisements. These are delivered using certain tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, many advertisements conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience.
Furthermore, intrusive advertisements often lead to dubious (potentially malicious) websites or even execute scripts that stealthily download and install malware. Therefore, even a single click can result in high-risk computer infections. Another significant downside is data tracking.
As with most potentially unwanted programs, UnzipPro continually gathers information relating to web browsing activity (e.g., IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc.) UnzipPro's developers share the data with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private information to generate revenue.
Therefore, having an information-tracking application installed on your computer can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly advise you to uninstall UnzipPro adware immediately.

There are dozens of adware-type applications virtually identical to UnzipPro. For example, MyShopcoupon, MacBright, RarGenie, and many others. Note that these applications offer different functionality, but all have identical behavior - they deliver intrusive ads and continually gather various information.
Potentially unwanted programs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than enabling the functionality promised, PUPs pose a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety. Claims to enable 'useful functions' are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy.
How did UnzipPro install on my computer?
UnzipPro has an official download website. In most cases, however, this potentially unwanted program infiltrates systems without permission, since developers proliferate UnzipPro using intrusive advertising and "bundling" methods. Essentially, "bundling" is stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software/apps.
Developers do not disclose these installations properly - they hide "bundled" applications within "Custom/Advanced" settings or other sections of the download/installation processes.
Furthermore, many users rush these processes and skip steps. In addition, they often click dubious advertisements/links, without understanding the possible consequences. This behavior often leads to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted programs such as UnzipPro.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent this situation, be very cautious when browsing the Internet and, especially when downloading/installing software. Criminals invest a great deal of time and resources into intrusive ad design. Therefore, most seem legitimate, however, these advertisements redirect to gambling, adult dating, and pornography.
As mentioned above, intrusive ads are often delivered by adware-type PUPs. If you encounter such redirects, immediately eliminate all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. Furthermore, select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each step of the download/installation processes.
Furthermore, opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. Criminals monetize third party downloaders/installers by promoting PUPs (the "bundling" method).
Therefore, these tools should never be used. Download your applications from official sources only using direct download links. The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution.
