x1881 Ransomware

What is x1881?

Discovered by MalwareHunterTeam, x1881 is a new variant of a ransomware-type virus called CryptoMix. Once infiltrated, this malware encrypts stored data and renames files using the "[32_random_letters_and_digits].x1881" pattern.

For instance, "sample.jpg" might be renamed to a filename such as "00A9531D13E7B26BC7E3A84F1414E6AB.x1881". Following successful encryption, x1881 creates a text file ("_HELP_INSTRUCTION.TXT"), placing it in each folder containing encrypted files.

Blind Ransomware

What is Blind?

First discovered by malware security researcher, Karsten Hahn, Blind is ransomware similar to viruses from the BTCWare and GlobeImposter malware families. Once infiltrated, Blind encrypts stored data and appends names of compromised files with ".[developer's_email].blind" or ".[developer's_email].blind2" extensions.

For example, "sample.jpg" might be renamed to a filename such as "sample.jpg.[blind@cock.li].blind". Updated variants of this ransomware add .kill  or .leon extensions for encrypted files (for example ".[kill@rape.lol].kill" and ".[atilla666@tutanota.com].leon").

After successfully encrypting files, the virus opens a pop-up window, creates a .hta file ("How_Decrypt_Files.hta"), placing it in all existing folders, and automatically runs it.
