Adprohub.com Redirect

Also Known As: adprohub.com pop-up
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is adprohub.com?

adprohub.com is a rogue website identical to consertist.com, trackingclick.com, primosearch.com, and many others. This site redirects to various other suspicious sites.

Users often visit adprohub.com inadvertently - they are redirected by various potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that infiltrate systems without permission. As well as causing redirects, PUPs deliver malicious ads, stealthily run unwanted processes, and record various user-system information.

adprohub.com adware

Potentially unwanted programs randomly open new browser tabs/windows and cause redirects to adprohub.com, which, in turn, causes a number (most likely 2 or 3) of consecutive redirects to other websites. These suspicious sites might contain malicious content. Therefore, such redirects can result in high-risk computer infections.

As mentioned above, PUPs deliver various 'malvertising' ads (for example, pop-ups, coupons, banners, etc.). These are displayed using various tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site, and often conceal underlying content. Furthermore, some lead to malicious websites and/or even run scripts designed to download and install PUPs/malware.

Therefore, clicking them risks further computer infections. Some PUPs diminish system performance by stealthily misusing resources to perform background tasks (such as mining cryptocurrency).

Potentially unwanted programs continually gather Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, geo-locations, website URLs visited, pages viewed, queries entered into search engines, keystrokes, and other information that might contain personal details. After collecting this information, developers sell it to third parties to generate revenue.

Potentially unwanted programs pose a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety. Therefore, all should be uninstalled immediately.

There are hundreds of potentially unwanted programs that share similarities. They claim to provide various useful features, however, these claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. Only a small percentage enable the functionality promised - most are useless. They are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.

Rather than (or, in rare cases, together with) providing "useful features", potentially unwanted programs cause unwanted redirects (thereby promoting rogue websites, most of which are fake search engines), generate malicious ads (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model), diminish system performance, and record various user-system information.

How did adware install on my computer?

Although some PUPs have official download websites, most are promoted using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and malicious ads. Therefore, PUPs often infiltrate systems without permission, or users install them inadvertently, without their consent. Bundling is stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software/apps.

Developers hide bundled programs within the "Custom/Advanced" settings, or other sections of the download/installation processes. Rushing these processes, skipping steps, and clicking ads exposes systems to risk of various infections and compromises users' privacy.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

The main reasons for computer infections are careless behavior and lack of knowledge. The key to computer safety is caution. Therefore, be very careful when downloading/installing software and browsing the Internet in general. Third party download/installation tools bundle PUPs (criminals monetize these tools by promoting third party software).

Therefore, download your applications from official/trusted sources and, preferably, using a direct download URL. In addition, carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs and cancel all additionally-included programs. Cyber criminals invest a great deal of time and resources into designing intrusive ads.

Therefore, ost appear genuine and it is difficult to determine if they originate from the visited (legitimate) website. Most, however, lead to survey, pornography, adult dating, gambling, and other rogue websites. If you are redirected to these websites, avoid clicking ads until all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins are removed.
