Booksearch2Go Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Booksearch2Go?
Booksearch2Go is dubious software that supposedly helps users to find various books online and enables comparison shopping when purchasing them.
These false claims often trick users into believing that Booksearch2Go is a legitimate and useful app. In fact, it is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Booksearch2Go infiltrates systems without permission, monitors users' web browsing activity, and continually delivers intrusive online advertisements.
Booksearch2Go records Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, search queries entered into search engines, website URLs visited, pages viewed, and other similar data. This information might be personally identifiable and shared by the developers of Booksearch2Go (SNT APP) with third parties who misuse private details to generate revenue.
This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Another downside of this PUP is display of intrusive online advertisements. Booksearch2Go generates intrusive advertisements using a 'virtual layer'. Thus, none originate from users' visited websites.
Third party advertisements often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the web browsing experience. In addition, these ads redirect to malicious websites - clicking them is risky and might lead to further high-risk adware or malware infections. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall Booksearch2Go adware immediately.
Research shows that Booksearch2Go is similar to other adware-type apps such as WizzWifi Hotspot, FREETHEMEDIA, WizzScreen, and ArcadeCake. In fact, all adware-type applications are virtually identical and falsely claim to enhance the web browsing experience to trick users to install. None, however, provide the features promised.
Adware is designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing any significant value for users, applications such as Booksearch2Go simply deliver intrusive online advertisements and gather personally identifiable information.
How did Booksearch2Go install on my computer?
Booksearch2Go is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, many users install this application inadvertently without their consent.
The developers know that many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software and intentionally conceal PUPs within the 'Custom', or 'Advanced' settings of these procedures. Users who skip the download/installation steps, often install bogus software such as Booksearch2Go inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Most potentially unwanted programs are distributed using the bundling method. Therefore, be cautious when downloading and installing software. Choose the 'Custom/Advanced' settings and ensure that all additionally-included programs are cancelled.
