What is ArcadeCake?
ArcadeCake is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that supposedly allows users to play various Flash games. The appearance of this app often tricks users into believing that ArcadeCake is legitimate. Be aware, however, that this app often infiltrates systems without users’ consent.
In addition, ArcadeCake gathers information regarding Internet browsing habits. This application also generates various intrusive online advertisements. For these reasons, ArcadeCake is classed as adware.
This PUP employs a 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, banner, coupon, and other similar intrusive advertisements. None originate from users' visited websites and conceal underlying content, significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience. In addition, some of the displayed ads can lead to malicious websites - clicking them risks further adware or malware infections.
In addition, ArcadeCake continually gathers information relating to Internet browsing activity including IP addresses, websites visited, search queries, pages viewed, and other similar data.
The data may seem insignificant, however, it might contain personally identifiable details that developers of ArcadeCake share with third parties who often misuse private information to generate revenue. Therefore, data sharing can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall ArcadeCake adware immediately.
ArcadeCake is not the only application falsely claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience with the intention of tricking users to install. In fact, there are hundreds of virtually identical adware-type apps. Examples include Jogotempo, GamerHippo, ArcadeCandy, and many others.
All are developed only to generate revenue for the developers and deliver no real value for users. Rather than enabling the functionality promised, adware such as ArcadeCake simply collects private data and generates intrusive online advertisements.
How did ArcadeCake install on my computer?
To stealthily promote ArcadeCake, developers employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Research shows that many users do not express enough caution during the download/installation procedures. For this reason, developers intentionally conceal bogus apps such as ArcadeCake within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings.
By skipping this section, users often install bogus potentially unwanted programs inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To protect your system from adware-type programs, be cautious when downloading and installing software. Analyze each step within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings and decline all offers to download or install third party programs.
