What is Cash Kitten?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Cash Kitten is a dubious app that supposedly improves the Internet browsing experience - "We're passionate about improving web by providing the best tools to enhance the browsing experience, from searching the web to comparing online deals to find the best prices.
We've combined all of our great ideas into the Cash Kitten product suite, a FREE set of tools that work to make your browsing experience... better!" The appearance of this app may seem legitimate and, therefore, users often think that Cash Kitten is reputable software.
In fact, this program usually infiltrates systems without users’ permission. Furthermore, Cash Kitten tracks Internet browsing activity and delivers intrusive online advertisements. For these reasons, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted adware-type program (PUP).
Cash Kitten employs a 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, banner, coupon, interstitial, transitional, full-page, and other similar intrusive online ads. None originate from users' visited websites and often conceal underlying content. This significantly diminishes the Internet browsing experience.
In addition, some redirect to untrusted sites that might contain malicious content - clicking them can lead to further high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, Cash Kitten monitors browsing activity by collecting information such as IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines (Google, Bing, etc.), and unique identifier numbers. Some of this data might be personally identifiable and shared with third parties who often misuse it to generate revenue.
This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate Cash Kitten immediately.
Cash Kitten Privacy Policy statement regarding data collection:
We only share or sell your non-public personal information with non-affiliated third parties when we believe doing so is permitted by you or authorized by this Privacy Policy. In addition, the Company may share your personal information with our parent, subsidiary or affiliate companies without restriction.
SuperWeb LLC has released several hundred identical adware-type programs including Native Info, Pass and Play, and Customer Promos - these just some examples from a long list. SuperWeb LLC aims to generate as much revenue as possible by releasing identical programs under different names, thus, preventing detection by anti-virus/anti-spyware suites.
Although Cash Kitten, and other apps developed by this company, claim to provide valuable features, they are useless to users.
These apps are designed only to generate revenue for the developers - rather than enabling the functionality promised, they generate intrusive online advertisements (via the 'Pay Per Click’ [PPC] advertising model) and collect personal data (which is later sold to third parties).
How did Cash Kitten install on my computer?
This PUP is proliferated using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party applications with regular software/apps. Many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software.
For this reason, potentially unwanted programs such as Cash Kitten are usually hidden within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings of these processes. By rushing and skipping this section, users often install bogus software inadvertently, thereby exposing their systems to risk of further infections and putting their privacy at risk.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Rogue installations can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, the download and installation processes should never be rushed - closely analyze these processes using the 'Custom/Advanced' settings.
Secondly, decline offers to download or install additional apps and cancel those already included, since it is highly probable that bundled software will be malicious.
