Spyware Clear Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Spyware Clear?
Spyware Clear is a spyware removal toolkit that allows users to protect their system from various infections. On initial inspection, this application may seem legitimate, however, it has one flaw - Spyware Clear is often distributed as a 'bundle' with various other software. For this reason, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
This particular PUP poses no direct threat to users' privacy/Internet browsing safety, however, many other potentially unwanted programs are untrustworthy and are likely to track Internet browsing activity and generate intrusive online advertisements.
The type of recorded information often includes geo-location, website URLs visited, search queries, pages viewed, unique identifier numbers, IP addresses, and other similar browsing-related data. Some of the details will be personally identifiable and often shared with third parties who are likely to misuse personal data to generate revenue.
Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Furthermore, potentially unwanted programs often generate content-concealing advertisements, which redirect to malicious websites - clicking them risk further adware or malware infections.
Bear in mind that Spyware Clear does not generate advertisements or collect browsing-related information directly, however, it often infiltrates systems without permission and uses computer resources (thereby diminishing system performance). For the above reasons, you should consider uninstalling this app.
Weather Alert, Constant Fun, and Triangle Trail are just some examples of potentially unwanted programs that falsely claim to improve the Internet browsing experience. These apps intentionally give fake promises of providing valuable features simply to trick users to install.
After infiltrating the system, however, these apps provide no real value. They generate intrusive online advertisements and collect personally identifiable information - their purpose is to generate revenue for the developers.
How did Spyware Clear install on my computer?
This PUP is promoted using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of potentially unwanted programs with regular software/apps.
For this reason, users often install it inadvertently. Developers hide potentially unwanted programs within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings (these are often skipped by many users). By rushing the download/installation processes and skipping most steps, users often install apps such as Spyware Clear inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
This situation can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, be attentive during the download and installation processes - closely analyze each step using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Secondly, all additionally-included apps should be cancelled, since most apps are bogus.
