What is Constant Fun?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Constant Fun is a dubious application claiming to provide various features that supposedly improve the Internet browsing experience - "We're passionate about improving web by providing the best tools to enhance the browsing experience, from searching the web to comparing online deals to find the best prices. We've combined all of our great ideas into the Constant Fun product suite, a FREE set of tools that work to make your browsing experience... better!"
On initial inspection, this browser plug-in may seem legitimate and useful, however, due to its rogue behavior, Constant Fun is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Following successful infiltration without users' consent, Constant Fun generates various intrusive online advertisements and tracks Internet browsing activity.
Constant Fun generates pop-up, interstitial, transitional, full-page, search, banner, comparison shopping, and other similar intrusive ads. All are displayed using a ‘virtual layer’ (a tool allowing placement of third party graphical content) and, thus, none originate from users' visited websites.
By concealing underlying content, ads generated by Constant Fun significantly diminish the Internet browsing experience. Furthermore, some redirect to malicious websites containing infectious content - clicking them risks further adware or malware infections.
Research shows that Constant Fun records IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, and other similar browsing-related data.
Some of this collected information might contain personally identifiable details that are shared with cooperating third party companies. For these reasons, the presence of an information-tracking application such as Constant Fun on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
Constant Fun Privacy Policy statement regarding data collection:
We only share or sell your non-public personal information with non-affiliated third parties when we believe doing so is permitted by you or authorized by this Privacy Policy. In addition, the Company may share your personal information with our parent, subsidiary or affiliate companies without restriction.
SuperWeb LLC has released several hundred identical applications under different names including Royal Raid, Money Viking, and Sharp Angle.
All falsely claim to provide various 'useful' features simply to trick users to install. Neither Constant Fun, nor any other apps developed by SuperWeb LLC, provide users with any significant value. These applications deliver intrusive online advertisements and collect personal data - their sole purpose is to generate revenue for the developers.
How did Constant Fun install on my computer?
Although Constant Fun has an official promotion site, many users download and install this app inadvertently. This is due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of potentially unwanted programs with regular software/apps.
The developers know that many users do not express enough caution during download and installation. For this reason, they conceal the installation of PUPs within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Therefore, by rushing these processes, and skipping most/all steps, users expose their systems to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To protect your system from adware-type infections, be attentive during the download and installation processes. Closely analyze each step using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Furthermore, all additionally-included applications should be cancelled, since they are likely to be malicious.
