What is Shoppr?
Identical to FunFeedr, Shoppr is a deceptive application claiming to save time and money by displaying coupons and enabling other online shopping-related features - "With Shoppr, you’ll always find the lowest price for any product you’re looking for online – all automatically, all while you’re shopping.
Gone are the days of wasting time comparing prices manually, leave it to Shoppr to save you expenses and trouble!" These fake promises are used to trick users into believing that Shoppr is legitimate and useful.
In fact, this deceptive app is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP), since it infiltrates systems without users' permission, generates a wide range of intrusive online advertisements, and monitors Internet browsing activity.
Shoppr is developed to display coupon, price comparison, banner, and other similar ads. To achieve this, developers of this bogus app employ a virtual layer, which allows placement any third party graphical content on visited sites.
While the displayed ads do not originate from the visited websites, they conceal underlying content, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience. Furthermore, some ads might redirect users to infectious sites, and thus, accidental advertisement clicks can result in further high-risk computer infections.
Be aware that Shoppr continually monitors Internet browsing activity and collects various user/system information, some of which might contain personally identifiable details.
The developers of Shoppr share this information with third parties, and therefore, having this application installed could lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall Shoppr adware from your system immediately.
Shoppr Privacy Policy regarding data sharing:
By using our SHOPPR services, you approve our sharing or transferring of information, including Personal Information, internally, within our group of companies.
Adware-type applications are generally very similar. All claim to be legitimate and improve the Internet browsing experience by providing various 'useful features', however, applications such as Magical Find, LuckyBrowse, High Stairs, and Shoppr deliver no real value for the user.
They are developed to generate revenue by displaying intrusive online advertisements and collecting private information - they provide none of the features promised.
How did Shoppr install on my computer?
The developers distribute Shoppr using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software.
Bogus applications such as Shoppr are usually concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options, and consequently, by rushing the download and installation processes, users often inadvertently install PUPs and expose their systems to risk of further computer infections.
The developers are concerned only with the amount of revenue generated, which is dependent on the number of applications distributed. Thus, developers do not properly disclose installation of Shoppr or other similar PUPs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Be attentive when downloading and installing software. Closely analyze each step during these processes and opt-out out any third party applications included.
To successfully perform safe download/installation, use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any concealed rogue applications listed for installation and enable you to cancel them.
