What is FunFeedr?
FunFeedr is a dubious browser extension claiming to save time and money when shopping online, and also to help users discover the latest web content available (books, celebrity gossip, music, etc.). These false claims are merely attempts to trick users into believing that FunFeedr is a legitimate and useful application.
In fact, this extension is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware, since it infiltrates systems without users' permission, displays various intrusive advertisements, and gathers Internet browsing-related information.
FunFeedr generates banner, coupon, price comparison, and other similar types of advertisements. On initial inspection, these might seem harmless, however, some can redirect to dubious sites containing infectious content. There is a high probability that clicking them will lead to high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, none of the displayed ads originate from the visited sites - they overlay underlying web content, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience. All this is achieved using a virtual layer, which enables placement of third party graphical content on any visited website. Another downside of FunFeedr is information tracking.
This adware-type application continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity and collects various information such as visited websites, pages viewed, search queries, IP addresses, geolocations, Internet service provider (ISP), and so on.
Some of the collected data may contain personally identifiable details and is later shared with third parties, and thus, having this application installed on your system may lead to various privacy issues. If you are concerned with your privacy and Internet browsing safety, uninstall FunFeedr immediately.
FunFeedr Privacy Policy regarding information sharing:
By using our FunFeedr services, you approve our sharing or transferring of information, including Personal Information, internally, within our group of companies.
There are hundreds of other adware-type applications with very similar characteristics including LuckyBrowse, Teras Games, DealBarium, and MyAppsCloud - these are just some examples among hundreds of other bogus apps also claiming to be legitimate.
All adware-type apps are developed to offer many 'useful features', however, these fake promises are simply attempts to trick users to install. After infiltrating the system, apps such as FunFeedr simply display advertisements and collect personally identifiable information. Their purpose is to generate revenue for the developers - they provide no real value for users.
How did FunFeedr install on my computer?
The developers of FunFeedr employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional software together regular software/apps), and thus, this application often infiltrates systems without users' consent.
Many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software and are unaware that rogue applications such as FunFeedr are often concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' download/installation settings. By skipping this section, they inadvertently install adware or other rogue applications.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent this, be attentive when downloading and installing software. Follow each step of these two processes, opting-out of all third party applications listed for installation.
Furthermore, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any concealed bogus apps listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. The key to computer safety is caution - do not rush the download or installation processes.
