What is Best Results?
Best Results is an adware-type application claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience. These fake promises to provide useful features may trick some users into believing that Best Results is a legitimate and useful program, and yet, this app is considered to be adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The main reasons for these negative associations are stealth installation, tracking of Internet browsing activity, and display of intrusive online advertisements.
As with other regular adware, Best Results employs a virtual layer to display various online advertisements (for example, coupon, pop-up, banner, etc.), which do not originate from the visited websites. This technique conceals underlying website content, and thus, users' Internet browsing experience is significantly diminished.
Furthermore, some ads may redirect to untrusted sites containing bogus content - clicking them can result in further high-risk computer infections. In addition, Best Results continually monitors Internet browsing activity and collects various user/system information, some of which might contain personally identifiable details.
Thus, having Best Results installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall this app immediately.
Best Results is similar to many other PUPs also categorized as adware including MediaPlayVid, FastPlayer, and iVIDI - these are just some examples among hundreds of others.
Adware-type applications such as Best Results deliver fake promises to trick users into believing that they are legitimate and useful, and yet, rather than providing the features promised, they display intrusive ads and collect sensitive data. Their sole purpose is to generate revenue for the developers.
How did Best Results adware install on my computer?
This PUP is distributed using fake torrent download buttons. Research shows that users do not express enough caution and rush the download and installation processes, which often leads to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted applications such as Best Results.
The developers are concerned only with the amount of revenue generated (which is dependent on the number of apps distributed), and hence, they do not properly disclose installation of bogus software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of adware-type apps can be prevented by paying close attention when downloading and installing software. Both of these processes should be performed with caution, and no step should be skipped.
Use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options when downloading or installing software - this will reveal any third party applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
