What is TheBlocker?
TheBlocker application supposedly provides a safer Internet browsing environment, since it prevents users from encountering websites containing adult, and other similar, content. Some users may find this functionality legitimate and useful, however, TheBlocker application is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
The main reason for these negative associations is a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' employed in the distribution of this rogue app. Bundling allows developers to stealthily install their applications together with regular software.
Therefore, TheBlocker often infiltrates Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' consent.
Following infiltration, this PUP displays intrusive online advertisements including pop-up, banner, and in-text. These might redirect to dubious websites containing infectious content, and therefore, clicking them can lead to further high-risk computer infections.
In addition, TheBlocker is developed to track users' Internet browsing activity and record various information including Operating system, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine users' geographic locations), browser type, and data (websites visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into the search engines, etc.), and other gathered information.
This data is mostly software or hardware related, however, some might be personally identifiable, and therefore, having TheBlocker installed on your system can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. TheBlocker is regular adware and similar to hundreds of other applications that promise to enable a great variety of features to improve the browsing experience.
As with TheBlocker, Shield-ren, Blockeru, and Web Protector also claim to improve browsing safety, however, none provide any of the features promised. Applications such as TheBlocker are deverloped to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online advertisements and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall this adware from your system immediately.
TheBlocker is likely to install via small programs called 'download clients' (also called 'download managers', 'download tools', 'installers', etc.) employed by freeware download websites including oftonic.com, downloads.com, soft32.com, and other similar sites.
Download clients are used by these websites to monetize their traffic and free services by offering installation of third party applications together with regular software. The developers make assurances that these apps are 'legitimate and virus-free', however, most are categorized as adware or malware.
To avoid computer infections, express caution when downloading free software and opt-out any additional programs included.
Furthermore, applications downloaded from the Internet should be installed with the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to cancel them. The following removal guide will help you to eliminate TheBlocker adware from your system.
