Desktop Recipe Ads

What is Desktop Recipe?
According to the developers, Desktop Recipe is used to search for food recipes directly from the desktop. Some users may find this add-on legitimate and useful, however, Desktop Recipe is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
Research shows that Desktop Recipe is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party applications together with the chosen software), and therefore, it usually infiltrates Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' consent.
Following successful installation, numerous intrusive online advertisements are displayed. Desktop Recipe generates various types of advertisement including banner, pop-up, in-text, coupon, etc. that often redirect to rogue websites containing infectious content. Therefore, clicking these ads exposes your computer to risk of infection.
Additionally, Desktop Recipe tracks users' Internet browsing activity and gathers various information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, operating system/browser types, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, and geographic locations.
These are just some examples from a list of information types collected by this application. Some of these details may be personally identifiable, and therefore, having Desktop Recipe installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft. Many adware-type applications have similar or identical behavior.
For example, Desktop Search, Sweet Surprise Slots, ArcadeTwist, Shield-ren, and Back to Back are virtually identical to Desktop Recipe - all offer useful features, however, none provide any real value.
Desktop Recipe, and other adware-type applications, are designed to generate revenue by generating intrusive advertisements and sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to uninstall this PUP from your system immediately.
Research shows that Desktop Recipe is frequently distributed using small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as, download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com.
According to these websites, download managers ease the download process, however, they are used simply to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of third party applications with downloaded software. These promoted apps are described as 'legitimate and virus-free', however, most are adware or malware.
This situation can be avoided by closely inspecting each step of the free software download procedure and ensuring that no additional programs are included.
Furthermore, applications downloaded from the Internet should be installed with the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed Desktop Recipe, follow this removal guide to uninstall the adware from your system.
