Crazy Score Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Crazy Score?
SuperWeb LLC are responsible for the development and release of Crazy Score. They claim that their product will enhance the Internet browsing experience by enabling various features such as coupons and comparison shopping.
These functions may seem legitimate and useful, however, Crazy Score is classed as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The reason for these negative associations is a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) employed by Crazy Score to install on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome) without users' permission.
Following successful installation, Crazy Score immediately generates intrusive online advertisements including banners, pop-ups, coupons, search, interstitial, transitional, and full-page ads. These may redirect you to bogus websites containing infectious content, and therefore, clicking them exposes your computer to risk of infection.
Furthermore, Crazy Score tracks users' Internet browsing activity and collects various software and hardware information (IP addresses, websites visited, search queries, pages viewed, and unique identifier numbers) that might contain personally identifiable details.
Therefore, having this adware installed on your system may cause serious privacy issues or identity theft. Crazy Score is just one of many applications developed by SuperWeb LLC. This company releases hundreds of rogue browser plug-ins identical to Crazy Score (for example, Glass Bottle, Number Ascend, Newer Version, and Knowledge Gains).
Despite claims made by the developers, none of these apps provide any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to uninstall Crazy Score from your system immediately.
As with most adware, Crazy Score is distributed via small 'download programs' (also called 'uninstallers', 'download managers', download clients', etc.) on freeware download websites such as softonic.com, soft32.com, download.com, and many others.
Rather than easing the download process, download programs offer installation of third party applications/browser plug-ins together with the chosen software. Occasionally, third party apps are simply hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options.
According to the developers, these additional programs are '100% legitimate and virus-free', however, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections (including Crazy Score). To avoid this situation, closely analyse each step of the free software download procedure and ensure that no additional applications are included.
Furthermore, applications downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any bundled apps listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed Crazy Score, the following removal guide will help you to eliminate this adware from your system.
