What is Number Ascend?
Created by SuperWeb LLC, Number Ascend is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that installs on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Bundling is a way to distribute third party applications together with regular software.
Therefore, Number Ascend is often distributed with free software downloadable on freeware download websites. Number Ascend claims to enhance the Internet browsing experience by enabling various features such as coupons or comparison shopping, and although this application may seem legitimate and useful, this PUP is categorized as adware.
After infiltration on Internet browsers, this application generates various intrusive online advertisements (for example, banner, pop-up, search, interstitial, transitional, and full-page) that often redirect to bogus websites, thereby exposing your computer to risk of infection.
Furthermore, Number Ascend continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by recording various software and hardware information. Although this collected information (such as, IP addresses, URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, unique identifier numbers, etc.) is usually related to Internet browsing, it may also contain personally identifiable details.
Thus, the presence of Number Ascend adware on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. This rogue application is identical to other browser extensions developed by SuperWeb LLC.
For instance, Knowledge Gains, Newer Version, Package Return, and Record Page also claim to enable identical features, however, rather than providing any significant value, these add-ons display intrusive ads and share collected data with third parties to generate revenue.
For these reasons, you are strongly advised to eliminate Number Ascend from your Internet browsers immediately.
Research shows that Number Ascend is often distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as soft32.com and softonic.com.
Download clients are presented as a tool to supposedly ease the download process, however, they are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of additional programs together with the chosen free software.
According to the developers, these third party apps are 'legitimate and virus-free', however, reckless download and installation of freeware risks system infection with adware and malware. To prevent computer infections, closely analyse each step of the free software download procedure and ensure that no additional programs are included.
Furthermore, programs downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any concealed applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
If you have installed Number Ascend, and you observe intrusive online ads while surfing the Internet, the following removal guide will help you to eliminate this adware from your system.
