What is HD4Good?
Created by Buca Apps, HD4Good is a rogue browser extension claiming to increase the quality of YouTube videos.
Although this may seem useful and legitimate functionality, HD4Good is considered to be adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP), since it employs a deceptive free software marketing method called 'bundling' to install on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' consent.
After installation, HD4Good generates intrusive online advertisements (pop-ups/unders, price comparison, coupon, inline text, transitional, etc.) that usually redirect users to bogus websites containing infectious content. This behavior may result in high-risk adware or malware infections.
Additionally, as with other regular adware, HD4Good tracks Internet browsing activity and records related user-information. This type of information tracking can cause serious privacy issues or identity theft. Be aware that HD4Good is similar to other adware distributed using the bundling method.
For example SpeedCheckApp, Blue Bulletin, Shop Easy - these claim to enable similar features, however, as with HD4Good, they provide no significant value to the user. The purpose of HD4Good, and other adware, is to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are advised to uninstall this PUP from your system.
Most adware is distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, etc. These websites employ small programs called 'installers' (also called 'download managers', 'download clients', and so on).
Installers offer installation of third-party apps together with the chosen free software to monetize download websites' free services and traffic. The applications offered are often promoted as '100% legitimate and virus-free', however, most are adware or malware infections.
To avoid infiltration, pay close attention when downloading free software and uncheck all additional programs included.
Furthermore, downloaded software should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any concealed applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed HD4Good adware, the following removal guidelines will help you to eliminate it from your system.
