What is Chart Choosing?
Chart Choosing is a rogue browser extension claiming to improve the Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other features. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, this extension is considered to be adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
These associations are made due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install Chart Choosing on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' permission.
After infiltration, Chart Choosing generates intrusive online advertisements including banner, pop-up, full-page, transitional, interstitial, and search ads. These displayed advertisements can lead to further computer infections.
Furthermore, Chart Choosing continually monitors and records information regarding users' Internet browsing activity including IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, unique identifier numbers, and other types of recorded data. This information may be personally identifiable.
Having Chart Choosing installed on your computer can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Be aware that Chart Choosing is just one of hundreds of identical applications developed by SuperWeb LLC. Spice Nice, Sad Cloud, Water Plant, and Fruit Basket are other examples from a long list, none of which (including Chart Choosing) are useful to the user.
This company releases identical extensions under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites. The purpose of Chart Choosing is to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, you are strongly advised to eliminate Chart Choosing from your system.
At time of research, Chart Choosing (and other adware) was mostly distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as soft32.com, download.com, softonic.com, etc. Download clients are used to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of additional programs together with the chosen software.
Although these promoted apps may be described as 'legitimate and virus-free', most are adware or malware infections. To prevent installation of Chart Choosing, or other similar PUPs, be attentive during the free software download process and uncheck all additionally-included apps.
Furthermore, downloaded software should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed Chart Choosing, use the following removal guide to eliminate this rogue browser extension from your system.
