Macitnow Ads

What is Macitnow?
Macitnow claims to save time and money for users who shop online. Although this may seen legitimate and useful functionality, be aware that Macitnow is considered to be adware.
The company responsible for Macitnow development (picitup) employs a deceptive free software marketing method called 'bundling', which allows distribution of additional applications together with the user's chosen software.
For this reason, many users inadvertently install Macitnow when downloading free software from freeware download websites. After successful installation (without users' consent), Macitnow generates various intrusive advertisements such as coupon, comparison shopping, search, etc. that can lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, information collected by this potentially unwanted program (PUP) includes IP addresses, websites visited, search queries, pages viewed, etc. This recorded information may also include personal details, and therefore, such behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft.
There are many applications identical to Macitnow, which offer identical features and use bundling as an installation method. BestPricesApp, PriceLess, MySavings, and BetterDeals are just some examples.
None of these apps are useful to the user - they are developed simply to generate revenue by the display of intrusive ads and sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to eliminate Macitnow from your system immediately.
Close examination of Macitnow reveals that, in most cases, it is distributed via small programs called 'download clients' (also called 'download managers', 'installers', and so on) on freeware download websites including download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com.
Download clients are used by these websites as free services and traffic monetization tools, since they offer installation of additional browser add-ons (claimed to be '100% legitimate and virus-free') together with the chosen free software.
You can avoid this situation by inspecting each step when downloading free software and never accepting installation of any additional programs offered.
Furthermore, downloaded apps should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any bundled programs listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed Macitnow, the following instructions will help you to remove this adware from your system.
