What is Box Green?
Box Green, a dubious browser plug-in, claims to improve the browsing experience by enabling comparison shopping, coupons, and other similar functionality. While this browser plug-in may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that Box Green is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The developers of this rogue application (SuperWeb LLC) employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install Box Green on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' consent.
Following successful infiltration, Box Green generates intrusive online advertisements including banner, interstitial, transitional, pop-up, full-page, and search ads. Clicking these advertisements may result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
Furthermore, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since Box Green adware collects various information that may be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, unique identifier numbers, and other similar details.
This information tracking can result in serious privacy issues or identity theft. SuperWeb LLC has released hundreds of potentially unwanted programs identical to Box Green including, for example, Teal Kitty, Banana Phone, and Match Pal.
None of these are useful to the user - this company intentionally releases identical browser add-ons under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus software.
Browser extensions such as Box Green are developed to generate revenue by displaying intrusive online advertisements and sharing collected data with third parties, and for these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall Box Green from your Internet browsers.
Close examination of Box green reveals that it is mostly distributed via small programs called 'download clients' on freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, and many others. Download clients are used by these websites as free services and traffic monetization tools.
Users who download free software via download clients are offered installation of additional applications together with the chosen software. Although the developers state that their promoted applications are '100% legitimate and virus-free', reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
To avoid installation of Box Green, pay close attention during download of free software and never accept installation of any additional programs offered. Furthermore, when installing downloaded software, select the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any bundled programs listed for installation and allow you to uncheck them.
If you have installed Box Green, and you observe 'Ads by Box Green', 'Box Green Deals', or 'Powered by Box Green' advertisements while surfing the Internet, read the following removal guide and eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
